The FINANCIAL -- Former
two-Michelin-starred chef John Burton Race is spearheading what is
claimed to be the world's first interactive restaurant.
According to Caterer and Hotelkeeper, Burton Race has joined forces with Jonathon Davies who won ITV's Britain's Best Dish in 2010, when Burton Race was a judge on the show, to create the Restaurant Experience.
Members of the public will take full control of the development and running of up to 10 restaurants in cities around the world. They will decide every element, from the location and the food to the chefs and the interior design.
The concept is being put together by restaurant consultancy Unitas. Funding will be provided through the membership of each restaurant. After an initial 10,000 signatories have been collected at www.therestaurantexperience.com, people will be invited to become members and pay a joining fee of £60.
In return, the members vote on key decisions regarding the running of the restaurant and receive privileges, including vouchers to eat at the restaurant. They will be able to monitor their investment via a 24-hour live stream to the business.
The 10 locations chosen as potential sites are all English speaking and based on the highest concentration of food bloggers and 'foodies'. Although it is hoped that the first restaurant will be in the UK, the founders of the Restaurant Experience say the location will be determined by the online voters.
