The FINANCIAL -- Hotelympia
visitors are being urged to sign a pledge to use more energy-efficient
equipment.
According to Caterer and Hotelkeeper, the Responsible Hospitality Partnership wants companies heading to the ExCeL event, which starts 26 February, to substitute an existing technology for one that is more environmentally friendly.
Those who sign the online pledge and enter some basic information will earn a free instant estimate of cost and carbon savings. They will also receive a certificate of their pledge and some additional tips on resource-efficient technologies.
Carlton Smith highlighted Hippo water savers, which fit in to toilet cisterns and cost less than £1 each.
"Energy-efficient light bulbs are also relatively inexpensive but savings can be astronomical," Carlton Smith said.
The Responsible Hospitality Partnership is also behind Hotelympia's Waste Works programme, which will feature free presentations and workshops to help companies reduce waste and save money.
Visitors to ExCeL will see four giant sculptures at each of the four entrances to the site. The sculptures will be made from cans, cooking pans and other junk material.
